Equus...

What can I say? It was... not good, but not too bad. It was too long. The cast seemed stilted and ill at ease. Richard Griffiths was just... boring. I didn't CARE about any of the characters.

OK, so Daniel Radcliffe was okay (yes, yes, naked... yes... let's move on) and the set design was really, really amazing. Really amazing. The horses were particularly brilliant and there's a wonderful light effect they do on DR to make it look like he's bleeding. Really fantastic.

But I do honestly think the script seems weak and crude. What are they actually trying to say? Has anyone seen any of the other adaptations of it?

No. Just rather fit blokes with weird silver cage masks on, brown skin tight body suits and these kind of clever silver hooves. It's very effective.

Yes it did, it was all over GMTV & the news & papers yesterday.

Didn't hear a bad thing about it in the media!

Well exactly - that's the problem! My expectations were perhaps too high. I was expecting it to be brilliant.

It was merely average.

I wouldn't actually recommend anyone to see it. It's not an incredibly bad play, but it is *not* a great play. and you pay a lot of money to see it.

Go see Love Song instead. That's a brilliant play. And MUCH cheaper.

Did they actually alter the script, then? (yes, I know you haven't read the play, but now you've seen the film you can compare the two, right?) Cos I love the play, and really wanted to go and see it because of that. If you thought it was the actors being rubbish then I may well not bother. But if a lot of your problem was to do with not liking the script and the play itself, then I probably will cos I love it. If that makes sense...!

Now, weirdly the film is VERY long and the script is exactly like the play, but it's SOOOO much better. Richard Burton makes such a better Martin Dysart. See the film! It knocks the socks of the sucky Daniel Radcliffe version.

Interesting factoid:
In the film, Alan Strang is played by Peter Firth and the young stable girl is played by Jenny Agatur.

Who both later starred in Spooks....

And Jenny plays the magistrate character in the DR version of Equus!

What a small world!

Well, that's why they got her in, because of the film connection. The Spooks stuff is just, well... spooky? :D

Yesterday I went to see Avenue Q with my friends. It was absolutely brilliant. For those who don't know, its about a road (Avenue Q) where puppets and humans live. It's a bit like sesame street, except rude. Its extremely funny, they sing songs like "It sucks to be me", "Everyone's a little bit racist" and "If you were gay" (Which my friends insist on singing to me the whole time....... yeah, okay, it was funny the first time, now get over it...)
Anyway, I think everyone should see this, purely for the puppet sex thing, which is probably the funniest, maddest thing I have ever seen

I really do want to see this, actually. I've been intrigued ever since the posters appeared on the tube. Will keep an eye out for cheap tickets... ;)
