Since it seems many of us have a shared interest in Red Dwarf, I thought I'd start a topic about it!

Here is your chance to post to your heart's content!

To start the ball rolling what do you all think about the new RD film? Do you know anything about it? Views please!

Yay, a Red Dwarf thread

Favourite series is tough because the best episodes are spread out over all of them, but gunmen of the apocalypse probably comes top of the list hence it's got to be series VI. Although, back to reality was also bloody good as well - why do I have to choose???

The film looks a little more definate now, filming to start in September, and they're using the Weta studios in Australia for the Special effects (did all the LOTR stuff). They even have the official flyers out:

The blurb on the poster says:
RED DWARF THE MOVIE is set in the distant future where Homo Sapienoids, a fearsome combination of flesh and machine, and the next stage of human evolution, have taken over the solar system and almost wiped out the human race.

The only survivors are the crews of long-haul space freighters that left Earth before the conflict began. The Sapienoids send forth fleets of Death Ships to hunt them down. One by one - the human ships fall, until only one remains.

Its name - Red Dwarf...

Surely this synopsis is ironic?? God I hope so!

Glad you took the time to read the books, although I must state that the books are seperate from the show... Mostly anyway! There's also another novel, called Backwards which you may enjoy. I find it funnier than Last Human.

As to the show, you most likely saw a clip from either series one or two as these are the only two series' released on DVD at the moment. I imagine a non-Dwarfer would find them very basic! To put it in perspective, series one of RD was first aired in 1988! I'd like to add that it had a buget of pence!

If you're intersted in RD you might want to watch series 3, 4 or 5. These are very good (although Holly is now female!). Series 6 is often quoted as being the best series. Then it goes right down the pan for series 7, I put this down to the addition of Chloe Annett! Series 8 does improve, as Chris Barrie reprises his role of Rimmer, having left in series 7 to do something else.

If you like GELF's then you'll want to be watching all seies as they pop-up in various forms throughout the show! I doubt there will be quotes from any of the books for the aforementioned reason!

Hope you enhoy Backwards, I know I did!

If you're lucky enough to get UK Gold, I think they are still shoeing RD repeats. Just thought I'd give you a Heads Up!

tbh, I reckon the film will turn out to be a bit of a smoked kipper based on what a higher profile and bigger special effects budget did for the last series. But I live in hope. They're dragging their heels with the DVD releases as well, two a year, that will take us way past the film showing before they all come out, I guess that's just good business.

Yeah, well that's pretty much typical of the BBC. You just have to look at the release schedual for Doctor Who! They always drag their heals when it comes to good sci-fi or comedy, but when they've got a crappy drama series they've got in in the shops before it's even shown it's last episode on the box!

Sorry, winge alert!

"It's cold outside,
There's no kind of atmosphere
I'm all alone more or less
Let me fly far away from here,
Fun-fun-fun in the sun-sun-sun.

I want to lie
Shipwrecked and comotose
Drinking fresh Mango jucie
Goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes,
Fun-fun-fun in the sun-sun-sun."

There is a third verse on a CD I have, but I can't remember all the words! Will post when I can be bothered to listen to the CD again.
