Sorry don't know Tara. Its a small budget film - Pathe are the distributors...I don't know what that means in terms of general distribution though.

Its 'world premiere' is at the Glasgow Film Festival as part of Frightfest on 23rd February.

Well, I've seen it and as my write up suggested its none of the things you're worried about. I hate gore for gore sake films, "Saw" and all that shit, but I think you will like this. You won't be able to sit and smile at Shearsmith looking nice - as you can see from the trailer, he doesnt. But he and Serkis elevate it to something more than your average slasher. But there's no getting round Ellison - probably quite literally with that chest, so if you simply hate her before - nothing's gonna change that. But she's not used in the way you think. She is a strong character. But I'll let you judge for yourself if you choose to eventually see it.

Is this straight to DVD material or a bit better? I mean Pathe are quite big company and they were responsible for Creep, which was a UK low budget thing, and I certainly remember seeing it in the multiplex. I think I saw it on telly the other day too, but may have imagined that!

Im quite looking forward to this even if its awful, it will be fun.

It opens in cinemas March 14th. And have you seen "London to Brighton"? the directors last film? It was far from awful - heralded as the best british debut of last year. Anyway - since none of you seem to care what I think - I'll sod off.

I knew I'd seen Creep somewhere recently! Doh!

I really can't get give an opinion as I've not seen it yet, but really had it not got Reece in it, I wouldn't be aware it existed thus not having any desire to see it! However as he is in it, I'll give it a whirl! :D

Here's my review of 'The Cottage' on Imdb (I saw the film a couple of weeks ago at a media screening)

Being devils advocate for a minute, I really HATED the trailer to the Gents Apocalypse film (the teaser) and was completely sure it was going to be pants. But it ended up being brilliant.

I also agree that the trailer for the Cottage is VERY silly. If you go on IMDB you'll see a few comments which agree with Kate. Not the best trailer.

But from reading the *plot* and reading interviews and hearing Debs and Juliet Bravo's opinions, I think the Cottage probably IS good.

JMHFO!
And I'll stay here till the trail's cold and return again with my meaty gold
You want it! You can't get enough of Hilary Briss and his special stuff...

Yes the trailer undersells the film in my opinion. By the clips shown & use of the 'Old MacDonald' music :? it makes it look like there is little in terms of originality about the film & overplays the silliness.

The trailer shows nothing of the character interplay & build up to the goriness which makes you care about what happens to them. The film's originality & emotional investment in the characters is nowhere to be seen :(

UPDATE: There is a review of 'The Cottage' in the new issue of 'Starburst' (No. 359) Its the one with 'Cloverfield' on the cover...

The Cottage - official site is up

Post by Geoff Tipps' Joke Writer » Fri Feb 15, 2008 3:52 pm

Google www.pathe.co.uk

(I tried live linking the official site it but doesn't work...probably due to Adobe Flash)

Go to 'Coming Soon', click on 'The Cottage' & then the 'official site' option...

Reminds me what an excellent score the film has too!
