Mais oui! wouldn't miss it for anything. Just a shame it's not a bit later and I wouldn't have to travel down, but hey-ho. Can't have everything.

Exciting! Woohoo!

Glorious though it undoubtedly was (ALthough somewhat scratchy, meh), I shall restrain myself this time. Don't want to scare the poor men.

Though the Winterbourne masks should be brought I feel!

Heheh. I actually now have the day off... am wondering whether I can scrape together the money for a ticket... or if I should hide stand round the corner and jump out at the Gents dressed as Christian Purcell instead! ;)

As you know, the BoPT is now available in Waterstones, Oxford St (near Tottenham Court Road tude). I bought it this week and I have mixed feelings about it. I think it's more to do with expectations. I was expecting a glossy, coffee table book with lots of photos, notes and doodles by the gents, rather in the way that The Essex Files, A Local Book For Local People and Scripts and That were. But it's a size with densely packed texts and only a couple of photo plates in the middle. This makes for dry reading. Also, very little of the book is written by the gents. It's divided into four chapters where each Gent gets to pick around 9 things that has influenced them. For each thing, the gent writes an introduction paragraph and then a segment of the thing is reproduced - such as a bit of the script or a chapter of the book. It's frustrating because they don't give you enough for a flavour of things you do like and it's almost too much of things that seem dry.

I keep using that word, dry. But that's what it is. Reproducing a Victoria Wood sketch on the page is never going to be as funny as someone watching it, where the performances are what make it funny. Similarly, reproducing a chapter of a book out of context makes it difficult to read and understand.

So I'm a bit torn about the book. Not sure I'd recommend it even to Gents fans, let alone someone who's not a massive fan, but has an interest in comedy.

I feel bad saying this, becuase I really loved all the other Gent books. I'd love to hear what other people think.
And I'll stay here till the trail's cold and return again with my meaty gold

What? How, no!!!! Oh dear. Thats upset me actually I was looking forward to reading it but if it's not actually written by them then it sounds a bit poo really.

there are SOME good bits. The cover is nice and the text on the inside cover of the dust jacket is funnier than anything actually in the book.

Some of those "introductory paragraphs" are very funny, especially Mark's:

'..."Ooo, nice bum!" A line that Reece and I used to quote endlessly for our amusement...'

Which made me smile! And the idea of making little oldfashion cameo silouettes of each Gent to denote their section is insired. There are some nice insights, but if you've listened to all the DVD commentaries, it's nothing like as witty, amusing or interesting as them, and you don't really get much more.

As I said above, I'd love someone to disagree with me!

I think it was a mistake to divide it up with the Gents each taking their own things as they do repeat each other and it's almost like the whole is more than the sum of the parts, where the Gents are concerned.

What sort of photos illustrate the book - rare Gents' pics?

This has already been posted up on the Official website and also Yahoo Group but thought I'd post the information up here too:-

The two book signings planned for 4th September at Waterstones, Leadenhall Market and Borders, Oxford Street have been POSTPONED as three of the Gents have filming, writing and rehearsal commitments & are therefore unable to make the signings.

The signings have been POSTPONED until all four Gents are available. A new date for signings is trying to be worked out.

PLEASE NOTE...this does not effect the Phoenix Cinema event on Sunday, 9th September which is still going ahead as planned.
