Steve joins cast of 'The Drowsy Chaperone' from 10th July

Post by Geoff Tipps' Joke Writer » Fri Jun 22, 2007 9:19 am

Steve is joining the West End musical production of 'The Drowsy Chaperone' from 10th July in the role of man in chair - the narrator role.

Kerri (aka Pam Doove) & I knew that he was going to star in a West End musical when Steve told us back in April after seeing him in 'Rocky Horror' at Brighton...but he couldn't really say much more so we thought it best not to post up anything about it...

The show originated on Broadway & opened at the Novello Theatre on 6th June (Steve attended the opening night...)

Oh wow, that's while I'm over there. I defintely need to look into seeing this, too. Who needs food? I might get to actually meet a Gent! And to see Steve perform live would be so awesome.

Can this trip get *any* better?!

I just went and saw The Drowsy Chaperone, and though light-hearted, it's quite a funny and entertaining musical. The character of Man in Chair basically is the show, so congrats to Steve on getting such a great role. :)

It sure will be interesting to see Steve's interpretation of the character. Can't wait to see him in the role!

Is anyone planning on going to this? Greedy cow that I am, I really want to go while I'm there. I'll do it alone if I have to, but I'd love to have company. Any takers?

Well congrats to Steve on getting the role....I had a look around and saw that yes the role is a biggun!

I would go like a shot if I wasn't moving house etc etc.
I still might get chance but that will depend on how long he's in the show for.

What day are you thinking? I could possibly come along with you if you fancy it? I haven't seen Steve in such a long time

If you can manage a Mon-Thurs that involves £10 seats, count me in! :D

Oh my gods, yes! We have to! Right now nothing is pinned down, so I'm sure we can make that happen. Thanks for pointing me to that link! I was balking at the regular price, but was prepared to do it. This means I can eat real meals that day, too!

Just a small update; unfortunately the show will close on the 4th of August (seems to be due to low ticket sales...), so if you want to see it, you have less than a month!

Am a bit disappointed I won't be able to see Steve in this, but oh well... it'll still be interesting to hear what he's like in that role.

We're going on 19th! So Phew! I hope it's good? Sounds worrying! Still, with tickets at £10 a pop, you can't complain!
And I'll stay here till the trail's cold and return again with my meaty gold
You want it! You can't get enough of Hilary Briss and his special stuff...

Steve's first night in 'The Drowsy Chaperone'...

Post by Geoff Tipps' Joke Writer » Wed Jul 11, 2007 9:05 am

I saw 'The Drowsy Chaperone' last night, on Steve's first night in the role, & thought it was fantastic!

Its funny & clever & leaves you feeling happy :)

The theatre was packed & the audience loved it!

Steve was superb, bringing a real warmth & depth to his role. He's on stage throughout the whole show & holds it together brilliantly. :) A perfect Amercian accent, bringing his own interpretation to the role (which is apparently very different to Bob Martin, the original 'man in chair') Steve is just great!

The whole cast is excellent, really talented performers & some great production numbers.

Its such a shame its closing on 4th August. Try & get to see it because it really deserved a much longer run...

Still, if the tickets aren't selling well, they might close the upper balcony to fill the stalls and put you right at the front...
