New BFI League of Gents biography out in November

Postby a1tiptop » Sat May 10, 2008 10:31 am

You can pre-order the British Film Institute's League of Gentlemen Biography from Amazon for when it's released in November.

The book is written by the Yahoo Group's very own Leon Hunt and although Amazon doesn't say much in their blurb, here's what Leon had to say:

Leon Hunt wrote:It covers the background to the series (Bretton, This Is It, Edinburgh etc), and there's a chapter placing the series in context as a cult classic. Then there's a big overview of series 1 and 2, another chapter on their use of Horror (with a big section given over to the Christmas Special) and a chapter on the third series. It was difficult to pack in everything I wanted to cover and do it any kind of justice - I don't know how Kim Newman covered 40 years of Dr Who in the same
format, when I just had 18 episodes and a Special to cover. I interviewed Mark and Jeremy last summer, so there are some fresh quotes from them and hopefully some new insights.

I finished it last October, so November seems a long way off. Hopefully, the cover will be up soon(ish) - I've seen four different mock-ups, but I don't know which one they're going with (three of them featured the Vasey sign, so that's a safe bet).
And I'll stay here till the trail's cold and return again with my meaty gold

Thats really good news - proper recognition too & in time for tenth anniversary of the tv series debut. Thanks for that Tara.

Wonder if the BFI will have any special screenings in relation to this? (properly not, but would be nice if they did...)

I've read that the book has a section on The League's dvd commentaries :) & one on the fans  That is just a brilliant idea - to include the commentaries!

Why not? This forum has been mentioned before in a book about fandom. I think we were under "N" for "Nutters".
