Mark's book - it's fantastic! SPOILERS!

Post by hendo nagasaki » Thu Aug 05, 2004 9:46 pm

hello chiefs!
received an advance reading copy of Mark Gatiss's "The Vesuvius Club" today at work from our lovely Simon & Schuster rep!
Started reading it already and it's great! Tis going to be the start of a Lucifer Box series, following the adventures of His Majesty's most daring secret agent, portrait painter, dandy and rake.....
Oh how i long to meet a real life Lucifer! So dashing and handsome! And what hands!!!!!
Can't write much as i can't quote from the book or may get knuckles rapped by the powers that be......Tis quite funny in a way (i think anyway) and he known as Gatiss writes in a wondrously descriptive way! Reminds me of those old thrillers you sometimes find on the local library's "sale" trolley, you know, those lovely jacketed pre-first world war numbers, with gentlemen heroes and secret societies........or is it only me who finds these?
Lovely drawings at the start of each chapter and a very fine, long-fingered and gloved hand holding a cigarette.......
Very gorgeous "stunning Edwardian package", with fetching centipede and gun shenanigans going on.........
Buy it in November! You won't be disappointed....

That cover is gorgeous.

Am I being stupid (more than likely) but is this a new creation, or are their other books about 'Lucifer'?

It is a new creation and the first of the Lucifer Box series of novels.

Yeah, SOTR, 'Fraid so.

I can't wait to read it either. I think it's been said before, but i really like the cover, because it's sort of Art Noveau.
